Moving in the Scene

CM Surveyor allows a scene to be viewed from both interior and exterior points of view. The red arrow in the three 2D windows, representing your location in the scene, can be moved using the mouse or keyboard arrow keys. If desired, a precise location and view angle can be specified by entering coordinates in the dynamically-updated text fields at the bottom of the display.

The demo model of the "Freedom Ship" City at Sea depicted above is very small with the complete file being under 2700 bytes, about the size of a tiny thumbnail 2D image. Yet the ability to view the scene from any viewpoint and angle allows a 3D model to be the functional equivalent of a nearly infinite number of static 2D images. As a result, even a thumbnail sized 3D model offers a modestly realistic feel for the concept. Larger and more information-rich 3D models will, of course, be correspondingly more compelling.
