         | |\/| |
         ----------------------------
Purpose: Changes the scale of the 2D section images.

Usage:

  • To Set the 2D Zoom Magnification: adjust the Magnification scrollbar to the desired magnification factor, then click Accept.
  • To Restore the Previous Magnification: press Reset instead of Accept after sliding the scrollbar. The scrollbar is returned to the last Accept'ed setting.
  • To Dismiss the Zoom Dialog: press Cancel. Also resets the scrollbar to the last Accept'ed value.

Notes: The default magnification factor of 1.0 results in a 2D image size that fits all three section windows reasonably well.

Magnification values less than than 1.0 result in smaller 2D images and coarser-grained movement resolution, i.e. each pixel represents a larger distance. This is most useful when viewing the scene from afar.

Magnification values greater than 1.0 result in larger 2D images and finer-grained movement resolution. This is most useful when viewing the scene from inside, and for hyperlinking. Because the images expand beyond the boundaries of the section windows, the section window scrollbars become active at higher magnifications to allow scrolling over the scene. When the avatar is moved at higher resolutions, the scene is auto-scrolled to center the mouse, if possible, when the 2D section windows are updated.

For physically large or complex scenes, setting the magnification too high can cause an out of memory error to be displayed in the Message Window. If this occurs, the magnification is automatically reset to 1.0.

Purpose: Changes the number of pixels moved per keystroke during Keyboard-driven Movement

Usage:

  • To Set the Step Rate: adjust the Step Rate scrollbar to the desired step rate, then click Accept.
  • To Restore the Previous Step Rate: press Reset instead of Accept after sliding the scrollbar. The scrollbar is returned to the last Accept'ed setting.
  • To Dismiss the Step Rate Dialog: press Cancel. Also resets the scrollbar to the last Accept'ed value.

Notes: The default step rate of 1.0 moves the avatar one pixel per key press when changing view location, and one-half a degree per key press when changing view angle.

Step rates from 0 to 9 can also be set by pressing the 0-9 keys when any 2D section window has the keyboard focus. Step rates in excess of 9 can be set only using the Step Rate menu.

  • To Set the Y and Z Sections to Starboard View: click the Starboard menu item. The Z section view will change from a 2D view of the port side to a 2D view of the starboard side. The Y section view will be reversed about the Z axis to be consistent with the Z section view.
  • To Set the Y and Z Sections to Port View: click the Port menu item. The Z section view will change from a 2D view of the starboard side to a 2D view of the port side. The Y section view will be reversed about the Z axis to be consistent with the Z section view.

Notes: There is probably no compelling reason to reverse the 2D section images other than personal preference.
